In this project, the human interaction was aimed towards producing the target text for the first time by embedding data-driven machine translation techniques within the interactive translation environment with the goal of achieving the best of both actors: the efficiency of the automatic system and the reliability of human translators. This first work was extended within the TransType research project, funded by the Canadian government. Historically, interactive machine translation is born as an evolution of the computer-aided translation paradigm, where the human translator and the machine translation system were intended to work as a tandem. Nevertheless, there are few commercial software that implements interactive machine translation and work done in the field is mostly restrained to academic research. In such cases, interactive machine translation has been proved to provide benefit to potential users. Interactive machine translation is specially interesting when translating texts in domains where it is not admissible to output a translation containing errors, hence requiring a human user to amend the translations provided by the system. Such process is repeated until the translation provided matches the user's expectations. Whenever such prediction is wrong and the user provides feedback to the system, a new prediction is performed considering the new information available. Under this translation paradigm, the computer software that assists the human translator attempts to predict the text the user is going to input by taking into account all the information it has available. Interactive machine translation ( IMT), is a specific sub-field of computer-aided translation.

The enemy design is respectable, but doesn’t offer much that’s new and exciting if you’ve been around the ARPG block a few times. But it encourages experimentation and helps my builds feel like they’re mine. The Relic skill trees still feel fairly limited, just like the base class ones, with most having two active and two passive abilities that can be upgraded in a couple different ways. A mage with vampiric berserker abilities? Nothing is stopping you. Each relic is class agnostic, so you can mix and match them to create interesting combinations. You can have one Relic equipped at a time, which opens up an entirely new skill tree that includes an “ultimate” ability with a very long cooldown, similar to those you might see in a MOBA. A mage with vampiric berserker abilities? Nothing is stopping you.It gets a little more exciting with the introduction of Relics, which ended up being my favorite part of the progression system. But each only features a handful of abilities to invest in right now, and since they’re gated at five level intervals, the choices you have upon levelling up are usually pretty limited.Ī sniper with lightning powers? Sure. Each has two main skill trees with a different focus – the Sharpshooter has one focusing on direct ranged damage and one focusing on summonable creatures, while the Railmaster has one focused on melee combat and one focused on making his train bigger and nastier. The options for customizing these classes are a little bit lackluster, too, especially compared to some other recent ARPGs. There is an unlockable reload skill that refills your ammo instantly, and while it suits the fantasy the sharpshooter is trying to represent, it was far too rare that it let me feel like I was making interesting resource management decisions. That sounds great, but their ammo resource gauge is basically just a fancy stamina bar that recharges quickly when not in use. The Sharpshooter, for instance, is a savvy hunter who can summon various companions and has a whole toolbelt of powerful ranged attacks. The hilariously over-the-top Railmaster reimagines the concept of a pet class by summoning a battle train that follows you around on rails you leave behind as you move, to which more cars with different uses can be added by investing in the skill tree.Įach of the four playable classes has a very distinct and flavorful aesthetic and identity. Not all of them are quite as fun in practice as they seem in concept, though. The weird and eerie Dusk Mage builds up dark mana by using light spells and light mana by using dark spells, and can unleash a more powerful finisher of either type once the appropriate mana gauge is filled. Each of the four playable classes has a very distinct and flavorful aesthetic and identity. At least things get a little more interesting when it comes to the class design. WWE 2K22 saw Visual Concepts overcome the disaster that was WWE 2K20, revitalizing the series with genuine physicality, user-friendly mechanics and huge cosmetic upgrades. And then you’ve got a cage…” Who’s going to be on the WWE 2K23 roster? We had to revamp every interaction in the game, to get two rings to work. Anything broke as soon as you put another ring in there. “The assumption that the ring is at the centre of the world, and the ropes are a certain distance away, with four corners, are all baked into the game. In fact it meant retooling the entire engine. “Having two rings doesn’t seem like it would cause a problem: copy, paste, put it in the other spot,” explains lead gameplay designer Derek Donahue. The dev team says squeezing WarGames in was a colossal challenge. It's playable online and off, in two different arenas: NXT and Survivor Series. Team-mates enter in staggered intervals and can bring weapons in with them, making for sheer mayhem once all six combatants are inside. This new match type sees two teams of three go head-to-head inside two rings, held within a single elongated steel cage. The biggest new addition, in every sense, is WarGames. It's a subtle yet smart way of mimicking reality. For instance, you can now kick out of pin attempts by flicking the right stick up at the correct point on a timing bar. That means matches feel similar, but with some neat incremental additions. Plus, laminating and backing helps them to be more sturdy and to stand out more when they are displayed on the wall. Protect all of the hard work that you and your students collectively invested in the word wall. Laminate the pieces and back them with cardstock. For instance, a variable can be defined as “a number disguised as a letter.” Tip 5 Definitions can be straightforward or humorous. If you are creating the word wall yourself or making elements that students have brainstormed, don’t forget to add picture associations, memorable examples, or short definitions in addition to the word. Tip 4Īsk yourself, What will students find confusing about this word, and how can I scaffold their understanding? Simply typing a word on a document is not an effective approach to a word wall. Will students be able to read it no matter where they are? That’s the goal. Before creating a masterpiece to add to a word wall, print out the word by itself, put it on the wall, ceiling, or location of choice, and then sit in various places in your classroom. Sometimes, you just have to play with the document to see if what you have will work. Make sure the font is big enough that students will be able to read it from anywhere in the room. Incorporating color in word walls helps students to transfer the information from short-term memory to permanent memory storage. Using color meaningfully heightens our awareness of information by drawing our attention to it. Color is a brain-based learning approach. It’s more beneficial for students to have meaningful and repeated exposure to fewer words per week than to be drilled on twenty or more words at a time, most of which they will forget soon after the quiz. I would suggest not adding more than five to ten words per week to your word wall. If you’re interested in using a word wall in your classroom, keep reading for some specific tips that will help you to maximize its effectiveness. Have students contribute all of the information, but the teacher can be in charge of creating the actual display piece.Teach students how to create content for a word wall. There are two ways to address this concern: Plus, students don’t always understand how to design pieces for a word wall so that they are truly a valuable reference. Speaking from experience, it’s really hard for a word wall to be effective when its illegible. Word walls are most valuable when students take ownership. They are especially helpful for English Learners and struggling readers, but they certainly don’t hurt students who are proficient. While there are many ways to scaffold literacy in ELA and other content area classes, word walls have been proven to work. Each subject has its own set of unique terms students need to master in order to be able to fully comprehend important skills. English, math, science, history, art, physical education – No matter what the content area, students have to be able to speak the language of the class. We want to deliver the best experience at scale, while also making it as secure and configurable as you expect. We are working on many new features and will release them with the controls IT teams need. But messaging features like GIF sharing, integration with the latest emoji palettes, link previews, seamless app integrations, and more are becoming essential to the Webex Teams experience. Video meetings are the best way to keep connected. To this end, I believe in a core maxim: The further apart we work, the more we need enterprise communications to feel more human and natural. As team collaboration evolves from early adopters, DevOps teams, and test groups to broader knowledge-worker bases, there’s huge opportunity for Webex Teams to have a direct impact on the way people connect. Building new experiencesĪs a leader I’m even more excited about what’s next. After the meeting, everyone stays connected with persistent messaging, file sharing, and more. If I have to leave early, everyone can continue without any dependence on me. With our meeting experience specifically built for teams, anyone can start a meeting, even if I’ve scheduled it. Switching context from presenting in a meeting to replying to a customer question has never been easier.īest yet, I can move between meetings more easily. It’s easy to see urgent items regardless of what I’m doing. I can now talk to my team, work on documents with others, and join meetings from one app. Webex Teams has been critical to my success. Multitasking on a new level: Today, multitasking seems to be a means to survival. One fully integrated solution means I get a single experience no matter where I’m working, plus added benefits when I’m near a Webex-registered device. I can save whiteboards, share content, and more without having to adjust settings and cables or open other apps. This seamless, blended experience saves time and keeps things moving when I’m moving. Having an amazing integrated hardware and software experience: I often start a meeting on my phone, then move to a Webex device with a simple swipe when I enter a room. And not just you, but up to 100 other video users (soon to be more…). For example, native interop with SIP endpoints (even proprietary Skype for Business users) means that no matter what app or device you’re using, it’s one click to join a Webex Teams meeting. With one core meetings platform, Webex Teams users benefit in many ways. It is a powerful way to work that’s highly effective. In fact, when I met some of my staff in person for the first time, I almost forgot that we had only met over video before. Frankly, the mix of Microsoft Teams and Skype users made it even more complex (never mind adding external participants).Īfter experiencing the quality of Webex video within Teams, I know why every meeting is a video meeting. With Skype meetings, video was more the exception than the rule. I’m not sure how many of you have used Skype but, for me, the video quality left a lot to be desired. I thought it would be challenging to manage such a distributed workforce. Video quality matters: I am based in Seattle with team members in the Silicon Valley, Galway, Shanghai, and beyond. For me, this is essential: It’s important to me that I’m one message away from anyone, no configuration necessary. Ensuring that all your team workflows exist in one place might sound trivial, but it has a big productivity impact. People are increasingly seeing productivity come from teams that blend internal and external participants. And unlike other tools, you don’t have to navigate separate organization accounts or switch between tabs. It’s simple to get anyone into your Webex Teams spaces. One seamless interface connects teams across organizations:We’ve built the solution in a way that surfaces all your spaces within a single interface. Here’s insight into what I value about Webex Teams – and more important, feedback that customers and partners have shared with me. I’ve spent a lot of time listening and learning. I am fortunate to inherit an amazing team and an amazing platform. As the market evolves from beachhead to mainstream adoption, my primary goal is to make Webex the go-to team collaboration solution for organizations of all shapes and sizes. I became the general manager for Cisco Webex Teams earlier this year. It’s an essential part of an always-on global business environment, fueling agile teams. Team collaboration is one such disruptive solution, rising up from yesterday’s siloed collaboration applications into a new way to connect people, content, and processes. And the industry is always disrupting itself. From email and calendaring to video conferencing and contact center solutions – and everything between – collaboration tools make up a massive industry. Companies spend billions every year on hardware, software, and services to power connections between people. |
